Image sizes that work well on social media
Common shapes and sizes for posts, covers and link previews, and how to resize to them.
Every network crops and resizes images in its own way, and their exact recommendations change over time. These widely used sizes work well almost everywhere and keep your pictures sharp without making files huge.
| Use | Shape | Size in pixels |
|---|---|---|
| Square post | 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 |
| Portrait post | 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 |
| Stories and short videos | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 |
| Link preview image | about 1.91:1 | 1200 × 630 |
| Wide cover or banner | 16:9 | 1920 × 1080 |
Resize without stretching
- Open Resize images.
- Enter the width you need; the height follows so the photo keeps its shape.
- If the shape doesn't match, crop first in your phone's gallery, then resize.
Keep important things (faces, text, logos) away from the edges: many apps cut a little off the borders on some screens.
